Look up at the Sky; Your answer lies there… Review of [141128]Aokana

Foreword: Merry Christmas, everyone! I wanted to include that statement with my newest review, so here I am 3 days after starting this awesome game that I give credit to akerou for having me go through; I don’t regret my decision one bit, except that I’m kinda scared that future games won’t match up this one!

Hm, now that I think about it, that whole “Christmas” thing wasn’t really that important… Oh well

Let’s get right into the review. Aokana, which is the shortened acronym for “Ao no kanata no four rhythm” was a great game. It’s unique in the sense that while it doesn’t look like it, it contains a lot of battle scenes, and to the great pleasure of players like myself, lots of symbolism and moral lessons.

Almost on kamige-quality, this title really did throw me off guard and had my blood boiling during some of its battle scenes! Quite unfortunately, it also had its bad portions, and I’ll be going through all of it during the review.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas, and I wish you the very best for the New Year to come!
Thank you all!!

P.S. Holy crap, this game already has a translation project going?

Game Type: Futuristic fantasy novel with themes of flying

Summary: Masaya was one of the best Sky Walkers of his era and age. He was known to be invincible with his Grashoes (Anti-gravity Shoes) when performing a sport called Flying Circus (FC), and everyone was calling him a “genius”.

However, this same praise had been crushing the protagonist for years and years, until finally, a certain event made the poor boy snap and destroy everything that he was living his life for.

Now, he is just a normal student with a few friends in school with no hobbies and nothing special. It is on one of these days when he meets a cute girl named “Asuka” who lost her keys on her way to school. Even though Masaya is able to quickly find the keys for the girl, they end up being even more delayed on their first day of school… Until Masaya breaks out his Grashoes and to Asuka’s surprise, they arrive at school in time.

The stunned Asuka turns out to be a transfer student who has never heard of these “Anti-gravity shoes”, and her interest inflates to the point she pulls Masaya into the thing he hated most with all his heart.

Masaya is reluctantly dragged back into being the coach for the thing he had long given up on; FC. However, to his fear, he finds himself enjoying himself as a coach, and perhaps with the help of the team and the people around him, he can get back on his feet and soar through the skies again.

Not gonna lie: this looks exactly like me running away from my huge, growing backlog.

Clover of Happiness: Review of [140328]Clover Day’s

Foreword: WOW. FINALLY finished with this game. Yes, I know it was ridiculously long since my last review, but I just finished my exams and now I have to work my behind off just so I can get by everyday and eat cereal in the morning T_T;

Hopefully, I still get through with the upcoming games… Or else I’ll see my “to-play” pile becoming bigger and bigger XD

Right onto the review! Frankly, all my experience with Alcot came from its one title, named “My Girlfriend is the President”. As people would know, I hated that game. Parody that’s not even funny, protagonist is a wimp that has nothing special about him, and the list goes on and on. In fact, I hated it so much that I refused to even consider this game at all at first. Thankfully, some of my friends gave me a slap-in-the-face and brought me back to sanity.

A game definitely worth your time, Clover Day’s is not your average charage: filled with climactic stories (although it does have its own flaws), it’s rather unfortunate that the game loses points in the end for not containing a solid theme. Nonetheless, it scores higher than many other games, and is worthy of being one of my most recommended titles.

Game Type: Slice of Life Romance Comedy involving “Twins”

Summary: Yuuto is the adopted heir to the Takakura family, who only has a twin girls as the successor. Perhaps because of this, his foster father picked him up while he was in an orphanage in England, and brought him back to Japan to become the successor to the family. All this happened over 10 years ago, when his childhood was filled with memories of his friends and imouto that supported him all the way. He vowed to become more strong and independent for these friends, and dreams of the day they will all be reunited.

In fact, that very dream happens unexpectedly, with Hekiru and Hikaru returning suddenly. This event is followed by Hekiru kissing Yuuto and asking him for marriage, which incites the rest of the childhood friend group. Yuuto’s future is like a four-leaf clover: a symbol of good luck and happiness.

White Graduation: Review of [120224]Hatsuyuki Sakura

“Exams? Are they delicious?”

… That was pretty much my mindset as I started and finished this game in another record time–3 days.
This is, however, considering that I really did NOTHING but play this game. As much of a horrible student I am, I am very pleased with my progress, as well as this game.

Overall, Hatsuyuki Sakura was a great game–probably enough to be called a “kamige” by various individuals. However, there’s a reason why I do not call it a kamige (if you want to know why, read on). Released on my birthday, I am shocked and have mixed feelings about this game, but most of it is a good thing, so…..

Well, I’ll definitely be following Saga Planets from now on (considering this is my first game from them)

Title: はつゆきさくら (Hatsuyuki Sakura) [Lit. Trans: First Snow Cherry Blossom]
Producers: Saga Planets
Release Date: February 24, 2013
VNDB Link: http://vndb.org/v7302
Getchu Link: http://www.getchu.com/soft.phtml?id=710938
Game Type: Romance Novel with themes of Graduation and Revenge.

Summary: Hatsuyuki is someone who is feared by his classmates due to his fierce attitude. He skips class frequently, and “threatens” a girl to create an alibi for him. One day, as he was skipping class again, a bunny hops over and snatches a 1000 en bill from his hand. Naturally, the protagonist chases the creature into the old ruined street which is rumored to have ghosts all over the place.

This is where he hears a girl crying, and this meeting between Sakura and Hatsuyuki will be something that triggers a chain of events of chaos, revenge, despair, anger, but most of all, love.

My favorite character: Ran! Unfortunately, she’s not a heroine :(
