Criminally Heartwarming: [Various] Yorunohitsuji’s Loliita Series + Extras

Foreword: One of the major reasons why I’m so headstrong on trying out doujin titles (even if they’re made with engines like RPGVX) is because while it provides the new environment of a different engine (aside from the ADV we’re used to seeing with VNs), some also provide gameplay which entertains me for a while or as with this particular series, it’s very thought-provoking.

With my bias for lolita aside, these titles are extremely well made (as you can see one of the titles not containing that niche element). The reason being that the writers were able to keep most things like the environment simple, but make the character themselves much more complex. As I’ll discuss in the main body of the review, this is really how games should be written and created, so I actually feel bad right now I’m lumping all of these 5 titles into one (4 plus a sequel); it almost feels like I’m disrespecting the game which is the last thing I want to do.

There is one more game from this doujin group. The problem is that title is MUCH darker and is actually an NTR title, making it somewhat unfitting to be placed in this review.

Titles:

  • ゆびきり婚約ロリータ (Pinky-promise engagement Lolita)
  • お泊り恋人ロリータ (Sleep-over lover Lolita)
  • 相思相愛ロリータ+生活 (Love each other Lolita + Living together)
  • 彼女、甘い彼女 (Girlfriend, sweet girlfriend)

Producer: 夜のひつじ

Game Type: Reality-set kinetic novel revolving around stigma of “lolita”  and socialism

General Explanation: Each title is actually quite short and thus giving a summary would essentially spoil the game. While the last title do not follow the same theme of “lolita”, it is well made, displaying an ideal form of romantic relationships as well as displaying some sociology viewpoints. Each of the other titles displays a young man in his 20s coincidentally meeting a young girl and after interacting for a bit they find something within each other which allows them to fall in love.

Once More… We Try Again: Review of [161028]Re:LieF

Foreword: And finished! I really think I was burnt out with the crappy games that I’m not giving the “good” ones a fair shot, which is the absolute saddest thing you can do as a eroge veteran/review writer. I’ll be focusing on VNs and eroge a bit more than my MMO hobbies because in my opinion, the former is more important to me.

Immediately hooked on due to the opening movie, this title was first on my priority list (along with Giniro Haruka which is now getting pretty damn painful to play), though as with any game where one has more impact overall, Re:Lief was finished first.

Overall what I could call a “decent” game, I’d conclude that this game is graphically and poetically stunningly beautiful. I love it when games include “morals” within them, which this game had, but as a critical review writer, I’m here to also point out the not-so-beautiful stuff which was really a turn-off and rant worthy in my opinion. For that reason, this review may sound generally negative, but I’d like to remind readers that I tend to exaggerate some of the negative features due to personal bias.

I DO want to mention with GREAT EMPHASIS that due to the nature of this game, as well as what my review needs to cover to properly convey my points, this review will contain spoilers. I hate to include spoilers in my reviews, but I really can’t control what NEEDS to be written in a good review, so I’m really at a loss. I mean I can write a shitty ass, vague review that you’d see on Getchu, but I’m sure no one (including myself) would want to read it.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN HEAVY SPOILERS! PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE READING FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED!

Getchu Link: http://www.getchu.com/soft.phtml?id=911416
Game Type: Slice of Life Novel with themes of sociology and life philosophy and sci-fi bullshit

Summary: Society can be such a harsh place. No matter how hard you try, an unfortunate accident, an abuse of authority, or just simply a series of unlucky encounters can crush a person’s efforts to no end. It’s even more unfair since those who are less worthy to succeed are often the ones who do, and the people who are working so diligently are kicked to the curb having to lick their own wounds.

Tryment Project is a plan for these individuals who were oppressed by the unfairness of society, and need a place to relearn and rejuvenate themselves with new knowledge. It is a place of new hope or new paths, or perhaps even new relationships. In the truest sense, the people who are accepted into this program receive a second chance. However, to the protagonist, Nitta Tsukasa, this wouldn’t be just a second chance…

The Consequences of Sin and Hatred: Review of [120928]SINCLIENT

Foreword: So I’ve actually gotten into replaying games that I’ve finished already and found to be enjoyable. One of them was this title, called “SINCLIENT”, published by Boost5 way back in 2012.

To make things short, this was a great game. From climactic scenes to character designs with impact and a resourceful protagonist, this game had quite a bit of the elements I would prefer in a “good game”, and especially after charage like Kodomo no Asobi, I found this to be quite a good change in pace and atmosphere.

Yet I’m here to talk about things I didn’t really appreciate. While much less prevalent than the good portions, it’s something that needs to be pointed out in a good review, no?

While I do have another review for this title on this blog, I’m probably going to be much more detailed with this more recent review.

In addition to this, due to how old this title is, this review will contain INTENTIONAL AND MAJOR spoilers! Please refrain from reading this review if you don’t want the title to be spoiled!

Summary:

…Who am I? I wake up in an ambulance where the worker tries his best to calm me down in my confusion. Whatever happened, I don’t know who I am, nor why I am in an ambulance. Suddenly, a car crashes into the ambulance!! Out pops several men in black suits and sunglasses, and they kill everyone in the ambulance within a matter of seconds.

But how…

… How does my body react so quickly? I quickly steal a gun from one of them and eliminate them all… How was I able to do that? What the hell am I?

I look around the environment I’m in, but nothing comes to mind. I don’t know who I am, I don’t know where I live, and I realize that now that I’ve killed people, I can’t stroll out in the daylight freely.

In my wallet, I have many fake IDs, and a hotel key. Maybe I’ll learn something when I get there! In great hopes, I open the door…

… A woman lies face up, her throat cut open, with “pigrizia” (laziness in Italian) written on the wall with her blood.

WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO ME?!
